One of the colorful observations that I recall hearing from my youth was “he’s big enough to go bear huntin’ with a switch”, another was “he lost a battle of wits because he was unarmed.”  On July 15th the State Board of Education will vote on a proposal to require a 4th science course to the state high school graduation specifications.  You’d have to have been in a coma to not recognize the importance of scientific awareness as a component of the successful contemporary life.  We require 4 years of math, English and Social Studies.  It seems to me that Science studies with the reasoning, manipulative, and application skills which are so appropriate to the business and personal world, and the like of which is found in no other discipline, is worthy of maximum opportunity.  Let’s not send our kids out unarmed to function and compete without the very best in academic experiences.  Please encourage your State Board member to support the 4 year science requirement.   sboesupport@tea.state.tx.us
